On Friday October 16 a group of students from Mining Civil Engineering, from the University of Concepción, visited the field offices of Minera BioLantanidos (MBL) in the area of Penco.

On the occasion, representatives of the mining company showed the students the work carried out in different areas like geology, engineering and exploration, being able to know firsthand the business of the so-called “rare earth”.

Students also learned about the facilities of the Pilot Plant “El Cabrito”, a noncommercial plant that will become the first of Chile and South America to produce lanthanides.

During operation, this plant will focus on producing rare earth concentrate for research purposes only, in order to gather information about this new industry.
