On Tuesday the new Regional Chief of Mining, Lautaro Benitez, visited the facilities of BioLantanidos Pilot Plant in company of the Governor of the city of Concepción, María Andrea Muñoz, and representatives of the Chilean Service of Geology and Mining (Sernageomin in spanish).
On the occasion, the authorities shared with BioLantanidos team including its Project Director, Arturo Albornoz, who introduced them to the mining initiative.
BioLantanidos “enjoys the good fortune to be an opportunity for the Region of Bio Bio, to the communes of the Province of Concepción and, from the point of view of energy, from the point of view of labor, marketing of new products, it is an attractive project”, said Benítez.
After the presentation the visitors toured the Pilot Plant facilities and learned about its two production processes: the internationally used Heap Leaching and the one proposed by the company, a continuous plant that recirculates the elements necessary for its operation. Note that the plant has both processes to compare the efficiency of the currently existing production methods and the one created by BioLantanidos, made 100% by Chilean professionals linked to the project, which will become the ultimate Lanthanides production process to date.
The Pilot Plant has a capacity of 1 tonne per hour of clays containing ‘Rare Earth’ (from one tonne of clay, about 250 grams of Lanthanides Concentrate are obtained, ie all the elements together) and is considered a Metallurgical Testing Plant that has no commercial purposes but research, application and / or technological verification, which will allow the company to obtain valuable information on this new industry with a view to the creation of the first commercial plant, scheduled for first quarter of 2017.
