IMAGEN: BioLantanidos Mining
On Tuesday January 5 BioLantanidos Mining was awarded by the chilean Liberty Institute in the category “Product Innovation 2015”, distinguishing the great contribution of the company in diversifying exportation minerals in our country.
The distinction was awarded by the President of the Commission of Mining of the Institute, Felipe Valenzuela Ortiz, in a fellowship dinner with the participation of various actors of the mining sector, including the Undersecretary of Mining, Ignacio Moreno Fernández.
When presenting the award, Valenzuela praised the work done by BioLantanidos in terms of innovation and development, including the design of machinery and new processes in the industry of the lanthanides, and highlighted the product obtained from its current pilot plant located in the Region of Bio Bio: Rare Earth Concentrate.
This concentrate includes the 15 minerals that make up the series of Lanthanides: lanthanum (La), cerium (Ce), praseodymium (Pr), neodymium (Nd), promethium (Pm), samarium (Sm), europium (Eu), gadolinium (Gd), Terbium (Tb), dysprosium (Dy), holmium (Ho), erbium (Er), Thulium (Tm), ytterbium (Yb) and lutetium (Lu), to which is added the yttrium (Y ) and scandium (Sc) for their chemical similarities. This means that, with the entry into production, the company adds fifteen elements to the mineral exportations matrix in Chile, which currently has about 11 elements including copper, iron and gold.
It should be noted that BioLantanidos is currently operating its Pilot Plant of Metallurgical Testing, which has only research purposes. Meanwhile, its first commercial plant is projected for the first quarter of 2017.
